Inpatient Psychiatric Services

Psychiatric illnesses such as depression and anxiety disorders and bipolar disorder are common in our society. In fact, an estimated 61.5 million Americans 18 years and older experience a diagnosable mental illness in a given year. The National Institute of Mental Health indicates that a little more than 20 percent of youth (or one in five), either currently or at some point during their lives, have had a seriously debilitating mental disorder. The need for treatment is evident, yet fewer than half of these individuals seek treatment.

That is why CenterPointe is dedicated to providing access to quality care, comprehensive services in a safe, nurturing environment that is conducive to healing and recovery, and an extensive continuum that offers progressively less-restrictive levels of care as patients progress through treatment and learn to manage the illnesses that affect their lives.

Silver Lining Senior Inpatient Services

CenterPointe’s senior adult program, Silver Lining, is specifically designed to help older adults cope with emotional problems or stressors they may be experiencing in life. For example, many seniors experience severe depression, anxiety, fears, confusion, disorientation, memory loss, medication issues and distress related to decline in health.

The staff at CenterPointe are dedicated to treating all senior adults as individuals, and also to working with each senior’s family to help them understand what their loved one is experiencing and how to cope with certain difficulties in the future.

CenterPointe holds the philosophy that each senior adult is unique with a rich history of life experiences. Current stressors and difficulties represent only a small part of who the senior adult is. We partner with the senior and their family or residence facility in the treatment of those issues, and we also celebrate with the senior the other characteristics they possess.

We also operate on the belief that the aging process does not eliminate the capacity to learn and change. To the highest potential of the senior adult’s abilities, we encourage insight, initiative and empowerment. Our environment and programming are tailored to meet the specific needs of older adults and we offer a comfortable, homelike atmosphere, with caring compassionate staff to help the senior through each step of their treatment.

Under the direction of the psychiatrist, and with input from the senior adult and family, a multidisciplinary treatment team develops an individualized treatment plan for each senior. The treatment team is typically comprised of a psychiatrist, internal medicine physician, advanced practice nurse or physician assistant, a master’s prepared social worker, a therapeutic recreation therapist, psychiatric nurses, certified nurse assistants, dietician, and mental health technicians. Together, we provide a clinically sophisticated, safe, supportive and responsive treatment environment.

The treatment regimen is designed to meet each senior’s specific needs through a variety of approaches, and may include individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, therapeutic recreation therapy, and activities of daily living.

Our senior adult program does not set age limits. Studies indicate that impaired cognitive symptoms can present as early as 40, while another senior at 70 or 80 could be high-functioning with regards to cognition, but may be experiencing severe depression. Therefore, each senior adult is assessed by the physician and treatment team to ensure each patient receives the appropriate clinical programming.

Our senior adult may provide treatment for a variety of the following behavioral health conditions, including, but not limited to:

  • Severe Depression
  • Severe Anxiety
  • Suicidal Ideation
  • Trauma
  • Marked Personality Changes
  • Excessive Fears and Suspiciousness

  • Altered Perceptions, such as Delusions and Hallucinations
  • Non-compliance with Outpatient Treatments and Medication Regimens
  • Withdrawal from Family, Friends and Others
  • Substance Abuse such as Prescription Drugs, Alcohol, Illegal Drugs
