Susan Mathis, RN, MSN

Chief Executive Officer


Susan is an RN, MSN, who has spent her career in the Behavioral Health field. For the past 25 years, she has held Behavioral Health senior leadership positions in prestigious organizations. She is regarded as an innovative and effective leader and change agent with excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Susan is highly skilled in motivating and mentoring management teams and staff to achieve objectives and results. She has demonstrated flexibility and success in the challenging and ever-changing healthcare environment.

Susan was in the Chief Operating Officer role at CenterPointe from 2005 to 2015. She was promoted to Chief Executive Officer in January 2016.

Susan earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing and a Master’s Degree in Nursing from St. Louis University, St. Louis, Missouri.

Azfar Malik, MD, MBA, DFAPA

Chief Medical Officer


Azfar M. Malik, MD, MBA, DFAPA, is a board-certified psychiatrist. He is the Chief Medical Officer of CenterPointe Hospital and the Chief Executive Officer of CenterPointe Behavioral Health Services.

Dr. Malik earned his Doctor of Medicine in 1978 from Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan. He is licensed by the state of Missouri and certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He earned his Master’s in Business Administration from the Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo.

Dr. Malik is the Principal Investigator and President of Psych Care Consultants, LLC. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Psychiatry Department at St. Louis University Health Science Center. He has also been involved in multiple clinical research trials for psychiatric disorders.

Christopher Lhotak, MA

Director of PIR Management


Chris Lhotak is a member of the senior management team of CenterPointe Hospital and is responsible for developing, implementing and directing organization-wide risk management & performance improvement programs and ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards including CMS, Joint Commission and state licensure standards.

Mr. Lhotak holds a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Management and has 20+ years of progressive management experience in behavioral healthcare organizations.

Chris has led numerous performance improvement teams over the years to increase organizational efficiency and improve the quality and safety of treatment and services provided to patients.

 

 

Karen Kasten, LCSW

Clinical Director


Karen Kasten, MSW, LCSW is the Clinical Director for both inpatient and outpatient programs at CenterPointe Hospital. Karen has worked in the behavioral health field for 23 years with a wide range of populations, including children, adolescents, adults and older adults in inpatient and outpatient settings.

Karen earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work from St. Louis University, a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Central Missouri University and she has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 1995.

Karen is highly dedicated to helping individuals who suffer from mental health issues, and to that end, she has developed an effective and dynamic continuum of treatment programs at CenterPointe Hospital.

Debby Monson, RN

Director of Nursing


Debby Monson, RN, Director of Nursing, has worked in the healthcare field for 12 years. She brings a diverse background in mental health and geriatric treatment that benefits the wide range of patients and families served at CenterPointe Hospital.

Debby earned an Associates of Arts Degree in Nursing from Sanford Brown College in St. Peters, Missouri, and she is a Registered Nurse.

Debby’s leadership in our new geriatric psychiatric program, Silver Lining, has been inspirational and characterized with strong compassion and dedication to the senior adult population.

Jim O’Malley, MA, LPC

Manager of Assessment and Referral


Jim manages the assessment and referral department at CenterPointe Hospital. Being the first point of contact for individuals and families seeking treatment, Jim and his staff bring compassion and understanding to the individuals and families who enter our hospital daily.

Jim has worked in the behavioral health field for twelve years, in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor, as well as a certified in substance abuse treatment. Jim received a Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling from Lindenwood University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from McKendree College.

Kelli White

Director of Human Resources


Kelli White is the Director of Human Resources at CenterPointe Hospital. Kelli has been an integral part of the CenterPointe Hospital management team for ten years. She possesses over 30 years of human resource experience, providing guidance and leadership to both management and staff.

Kelli’s broad range of experience includes employee relations, benefits, recruitment, on-boarding and retention programs in the healthcare industry. Kelli has been instrumental in implementing human resources management policies and strategies that enable CenterPointe hospital to recruit, train and retain a highly motivated workforce in the unique behavioral health industry.

Jennifer Bourn, BS, RHIT

Director of Health Information Management


Jennifer has worked in the behavioral health field for eighteen years and has served as the Director of Health Information (HIM) and Medical Staff Services at CenterPointe Hospital for sixteen years. Along with managing the HIM Department, Jennifer has served as the HIPAA Privacy Officer for thirteen years to ensure compliance with all HIPAA laws.

Jennifer earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Maryville University. She is a member of the St. Charles Community College Advisory Board for their Health Information Technology Program, and is a current member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

Jennifer is an integral member of the management team at CenterPointe Hospital, providing guidance and leadership in policy and procedure development.

Sheila Hunt, MA, LPC

Regional Director of Business Development


Sheila Hunt, MA, LPC is the Regional Director of Business Development for CenterPointe Behavioral Health System. Sheila has worked in the behavioral health field for over thirty years in clinical, administrative, and business development roles.

She has worked in business development positions with a variety of clinical populations including, children, adolescents, adults, and older adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Sheila earned a Master’s of Arts Degree in Counseling from Antioch New England Graduate School and completed All But Dissertation on a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.

Ms. Hunt is known for her strong advocacy for mental health treatment and as a community educator for mental health issues.
